I just had a full set of Michelin Latitude Cross tyres fitted to my 06 Freelander TD4. The tyres are 225/55r17 101H XL fitted to what I presume is just the factory issue 17" alloys. The clearance between the tyre wall and the bottom of the coil spring seems very tight - like 6 - 7mm at the front and 10mm at the rear. Is this acceptible?

I didn't check what the previous tyres were like, and this thread below gives similar values, but on the wider 235 tyre.

The garage inflated them to 34 psi, but I can't see a couple of psi here or there making much difference.

I recently put 235/70X16s on my 04 Freelander. I have about the same amount of clearance that you do and haven't had any issues so far,
although it has just seen road use. I do intend to fit 5mm spacers though as the limited clearance makes me feel a bit uncomfortable.

Mine is fitted with 225/60/17 AT tyres. There's about 7mm of clearance between the tyre and front strut. That is an acceptable clearance and no cause for concern.

Cheers. I suppose wheels are designed not to wobble, and one that did wobble 6 or 7mm would pose more urgent problems than just a rubbing tyre!
