Series 3 Two more wiring queries

Two more things I noted today...

1. My new loom only has 3 wires between the windscreen wiper motor and the rotary switch (plus the washer pump motor), whereas the old loom had 4 wires. Pin 3 on the wiper motor was connected to pin 1 on the switch. The wiring diagram doesn't have the wire, so the new loom seems to match the original design.

I've pulled the wire out of the old loom and added it across the dash, but I'm curious what it's supposed to do. Any harm in having it there?

2. I also noticed the new loom didn't have any wires for the (heater) fan, and it's also missing from the wiring diagram. Is the fan really an 'extra' that isn't part of the basic wiring?

Again, I've pulled the wires from the old loom and they are now installed. Just wondering why I had to...

Probably two speed wiper instead of one speed.
You can comments to your original post instead of opening a new one every time you have another ?

Ah yes, that's probably it. I was thinking that 3 wires would be enough for a multi-speed motor, but I guess the self-park uses a couple of the wires. I definitely have a 2 speed motor and switch. I'm surprised it's not standard, though.

And yeah, I know I can, but some forums prefer 'one thread per topic' to make searching more effective. If this forum is happy for threads to run off-topic and prefers to keep the thread count down, then I'll double-up my queries in future. Sorry.
