Hi Folks,

I finally got round to putting the twin roof motors back in and connecting the switches up tonight and on pressing each switch I just hear a relay type clicking sound from the control module. No movement in either roof at all. But each direction of each switch does make the click sound, with a different tone for each direction press on the switch.

Also using rear switch the same clicks can be heard by the rear roof does not move again.

So reading a few posts about the place I see people having issues with motors or ECU problems. But I'm unsure how to determine which is my issue?
If there are any experts in the house...

Which colour wires from the ECU do I test for live feeds and at what point in the pressing of the switch?

Which colour wires to the motor can I put a live feed to in order to check they work manually?

Do the motors come apart as easy as people write so that I can open it up and check for corrosion?

How do I determine if the control box is goosed?

Basically I am after some guidance on carrying out diagnostics checks on the sunroof system to find out where my problems lie??

For info I did have extensive leak issues so the motors will have been wet on several occasions and have now been sat dry for about a month.

Cheers all
Dave...

PS. In trade I am now a leaky roof expert! If anyone needs any pointers just shout up. Also just fixed one of the roof runners as it had come undone internally. Bit fo an info trade for anyone that needs help.

Sorted it myself and so now have found its the motors themselves seized.

Does anyone know if the window motors are the same as the roof motors?

Mine are now out and soaking in WD40, but were well stuck. At most I would just need to replace the actual motor part and refit the housing and drive end part. But roof replacements cost heaps more than window, so looking to save some funds??

Anyone?

Once again, just sorted it myself. Just took a bit of thought and I stripped the lot down and have got everything working again. I notice over 150 people have read this thread so if anyone is having the same trouble I am happy to help out.

Cheers

Hi! Thanks, I'm in the same position as you were when you started! I plan to pull my roof liner out in a fortnight and do the re-seals, re-tighten and seal the roof bars, sort the 'drainage' on the sunroof's and check for corrosion in the motors...!
I get leaks after rain in through the passenger side seat belts pillars! And both electric sunroofs don't move, I've just bought this Disco, I'm new to it but this is the plan I have sussed so far thanks to posts like yours...! At most my experience extends only to having taken interior trims off and changed bulbs and such, all I have planned seems fairly clear until i get to the motors...! I would be very chuffed if I could clear the corrosion and have them working again whilst I have the roof liner out, but like yourself, how would I even know it is that which needs doing? Can you please give me a good explanation of what you did with the motors once you removed them? And I will give it a whirl regardless whilst I have the liner down

I did mine, they are very easy to take apart and clean. I had to soak mine wd40 for a night.
Brilliant, that has helped ease my woes! Cheers

And thanks tulipandyhistle for the guide, again this makes it feel achievable! Feeling more positive about my Sunday afternoon inside the Green Machine now! Thanks

I got both of my motors working again after soaking in WD40 for a night. Mine were completely seized and after getting them lose with WD40 I blew all oil off with the airgun. After that i sad papered the copper out sides and blow all dust off again.

Put together again and it worked, saving 80 pounds each for new ones.
