turbo problem

Hi, I'm Paul, from Yorkshire but now in Italy. I have a 2006 Freelander, bought just over a year ago. Looking at internet symptom stuff it seems to have a turbo related problem: loss of power in acceleration, particularly on hills in 3rd gear, when it makes a sort of "CHOOF" noise, but now also at speed in 4th and 5th. Any suggestions, short of whole new turbo unit?... filters? Ventilation pipes?

Have a check of the intercooler pipes get someone to rev it up while you have a good look they are known to split.
