What exactly would need to be done in the maintenance and monitoring department for a turboed engine, are there also any types of gauge that would be a good idea to fit. I've never had a turbo engine and if you look in the previous thread on this section I'm debating if I should go 12j or 19j...
Thanks

Follow the maintenance schedule in the manual, you wont go far wrong. Does no harm to change the oils nd filters a bit more often than they say, especially for hard or occasional use.
Only difference in the schedules is TD has an extra tappet check, at 6,000 miles from new engine,as well as normal 2.5na tappet checks at 1,000 and 12,000 mile intervals. Turbo itself is scheduled for boost check at 40k, few bother, I should think.

Would you say buy genuine Land Rover for this part of aftermarket/oem

The turbo itself.

New turbo from landrover might be thousands if they still carry them. They are made by Garratt anyway.

Most get recons, if you aint got an old unit get one from a scrappy, send it off.

I got mine done by Turbo Technics, it was about £300 in 2009. Lovely job, boosts nicely, just the merest whine. It has done about 26k miles since.

As for monitoring depends what you want to do.

I monitor oil pressure now as if that falls the turbo would suffer first.

You can monitor boost and exhaust gas temps to keep an eye on things but not really any point.

A boost gauge is worth having for spot checks but I don't have it installed in the vehicle
