Hi,
I have seen online that in the 80's you could get a kit to add a turbo to a standard series 3.I was wondering if its possible to fit a turbo from say a golf to the standard 2.25 l diesel. If it is does has anyone done so or does anyone have any info on kits out there that may work?

I wouldn't fit a turbo from a modern diesel because it will be too powerful. If you really wanted to it would be fairly easy to fit a defender turbo but an old engine like that wouldn't last long with that much extra power. Consider swapping the engine if you really want power.

I personally wouldn't advise it, you could run low amounts of boost and get perhaps a bit of an increase in power, but for the effort wouldn't really be worth it. And the injector pump on the 2 1/4 dont have the boost fuel compensators on them like the tdi's have, meaning under boost it would be running lean, or if you turn the max fuel right up to make it not do this, its would run rich at low boost (i.e. low revs)

bout 10years ago i had a series 3 2.25 and was offered one of those bolt on kits, think it was tb turbos or something like? it did give a very small increase in power but did result in a perfectly good engine self destructing in bout 6 months! the 2.25 was not built to be turbo so not worth it tbh better off just fitting a td or tdi , wish i had then :)
