Hi

I have just bought five steels - 5.5J x 16 - and intend to remove the tyres from the alloys on my 90

Are the OE steel wheels designed to be used with or without a tube?? Or is it more to do with the tyre?

Sorry once again to appear dumb - self confessed Land Rover virgin!!

Soon have 6 x freestyle alloys for sale too...with set of 20 wheel nuts and four locking nuts - I guess I should try here before eBay

Thanks
Paul

As above. Pop the part no stamped on the rim up here, or just Google it. Early steel wheels were designed for tube only - look for the rim being riveted to the centre steel disc.

Thanks guys...bought the wheels off the bay and not picking up til after Christmas now. £21 for five rims seemed like a bargain to me... Will have a look at part number when I've got them

Cheers

That is super cheap if they are in decent condition. result!

They were super cheap but only if they work for me!! I have five new 235/70R16 Michelin tubeless tyres that were on the 90 when I bought it. I will have to take some advice about fitting that size tyre to 5.5" wheels. If it all works out happy days...then I will have six alloys to sell along with wheel nuts and locking nuts - we'll see

As was posted in the other thread, dont use tubeless tyres without tubes on tube rims. Tubed tyres on tubeless rims is ok.

Thanks man. I didn't really think about tubes or not when I bought the steels...just wanted the look as not really into the alloys that are on it. Need to get the wheels back to mine and see what the score is. I'm wondering if I should be buying a wider rim for the 235s...love the plain look of the original steels though so hope it all works out well

Appreciate your very straight forward advice dude...thanks

I agree, not bothered about alloy wheels myself. Never had a problem with the steel wheels.
Read around on the forum, see what people use with 235s. I would have thought you would be ok on the 5.5 rims, but no personal experience. If in doubt, set of wolf rims would be fine for those.
