Evening,

I’ve gone and got another Land Rover! This time I have the space, a daily and a decent base. I’m just missing the time!
I saw Rich had a D1 for sale and we chatted for a while and I finally collected at the weekend.
4 hours back without missing a beat. There’s a few gremlins, there’s rust to sort (not too dramatic in d1 terms), there’s things like headliners and sunroofs but the chassis seems very good and it’s an honest truck. Paints also rough but no bother. Best of all, it’s full leather ES model.
It drives well, much better than the defender I had that was worth 15k more 😂
I thought I’d get a log going and do things 1 step at a time this time, learning from my last builds and d1 failure.

First job was switch cleaning so that I could move the seat into correct position. De-gunked, lick of spray and a glued on bottom catch from another spare trim piece and one sided sorted.

Cam belt kit ordered as we couldn’t find recent record of it. Loads of service history with the truck mind.
The plan is to send off a manual pump and my old mech injectors to diesel bob then de-edc it. Although the edc seems to be working really nicely at the moment!

Just shows that they can last well, if looked after.
Yours looks fantastic with that milage.
Keep the photos coming
Thanks! Drives bloody well for it too! I was going to rebuild the engine when welding but I may just stick a belt on it for now. Tempted to put a head gasket on when I do the belt to see how the insides look at 200k!

She has a small weep…. I put the bucket there yest afternoon when I saw her dripping. Incontinence catches up when in the later years of life.

Seems she will be dictating the programme of works. Fine by me. I quite like not diving straight in with a needle gun and getting covered in ****e

A very pleasant surprise. When removing the headliner no rust was found in the rear corners. I guess the alpine seals either never leaked or were replaced well. They do look in good Nick to be fair.
The culprit of the leak can be seen too. Gotta love bathroom silicone. Seems front one isn’t leaking but the seals came as a pair so may as well do both.

Opinions - do I go grey headliner trying to match the existing or do I go black and not risk 50 shades of grey but deviate from oem 🤔?

Spiders get everywhere in a Land Rover! I had the same in my old disco 1 when I removed bits of interior trim…

Glad to see you back on in the game again. :).

I don't have leaks in my 90. It comes in the top and goes out the bottom, its called right of passage;) no carpets to soak it up and cause problems🤔.

Have you checked the sun roof pipes?

Going to both check and extend mate. I thought I’d get the lot rebuilt and sealed properly and then run them out a real drain rather than as a rust accelerator!

How you been Phil? Keeping well?
Keeping well here. Not been out (proper) laning this year.
Need to get back into cycling with the thick spaniel.
.

Job complete. Seal isn’t totally flush with glass - you can see a small glimmer of daylight. I’ll have a look tomorrow to see if its expanded a little. Surely if a little gets in the sunroof drains should take care of that?! Main thing is the rust is addressed. Not the prettiest job but will keep things dry (I hope) and I can tidy up when I tidy the rest of the paint
