Series III 2 1/4 Petrol. The engine has started cutting out. I did the usual and went back to basics. I set he points and timing. The motor ran fine on the drive but it conked out when running down the road. I thought of fuel startvation but when the engine is switched off and switched back on the charge light does not comes on. The motor spins on the starter but does not fire up. Then again when the lights does come on with the key the motor starts up beautifully but runs intermittantly.

Lift pump from previous sounds interesting but lack of lights on the dash makes me think electics but what bit, Coil, condenser?

Any ideas?

intermittence sucks:( But if the light on the dash comes on then i suppose you should be looking at the low voltage circuit . I would start by checking all the wires that are out in the open ie the 12v wires to coil, distributor, but im not exactly clear on how that light works and not sure if the coil would effect it switching on. So then I think it would most likely be behind the dash, loose wire on the ignition/key or something to that tune. Good luck. Let us know what it is when you find out please.

I think Kelly may be on to something I had a problem starting mine it turns out the wires on the ignition was crossed. IT makes sense that a loose connection on the igniion could be the cause.
