Tried to start, sometimes nothing, sometimes turns over.

Hello, I posted a thread yesterday but today I went to see the car myself (it belongs to my parents) and thought I'd posted a new post with what it's doing.

07 L322 DIESEL VOGUE AUTO

The car started and stalled the other day, it wouldn't restart, not turning over, nothing.

Today I furn on the ignition and it doesn't turn over, nothing, appears dead.
I hear a high pitched noise under the bonnet which I assume is the electrics coming alive for starting etc. I also heard a loud clicking sound under the bonnet near the battery with the ignition on, but this stopped.
I tried to start it and nothing, no sound, appears totally dead, tried again, it turns over this time but doesn't fire up, tried again, no sound, dead again.

The rac popped out, couldn't identify the issue, they tried all the software they had.

If anyone has any suggestions that would be great.

It's booked it at a LR specialist at the end of the month.

Many Thanks

Tried a new battery?

Hello, no not yet, the battery is less than a year old, would a jump start be worth a try? It does sometimes turn over, just doesn't start. Thanks

A jump start might help, but there is a risk of damaging the electronics.

My friend bought a brand new Range Rover, and when the vehicle was about a year old, it did pretty much what you describe, all dash lights on, no turn over, no start. A new battery cured it.

Range Rovers are not as other vehicles. Not certain it is the problem, but it would be worth a try, and give the specialist something to work with if it does end up there.

Charge the battery then take a voltage reading after an hour and see what you have 12.8v is a good battery 12.4v is a dead battery
range rovers are very power hungry and anything other than a 100% battery and they will throw a wobbler just for fun, if the battery power is low it will go even lower as it turns over robbing ecu`s of the right amount of volts
if you need a new bat the vogue needs the biggest you can get in there an mf31 120ah 1000cca it fits with about 2mm to spare and you have to put the bonnet up in access position.

They don’t like low or 0 volts so just a disconnect/reconnect improperly can upset them. But if ever they have dead battery can’t worry about what happens when reconnecting power as you have no choice. (Other than burn it). Read up on proper procedure on here. Avoid jump starting if possible or bump starting for that matter. L322s didn’t come with manual boxes but they are out there

Good shout on the earth strap they are a known fail point, its located by the passenger engine mount and can look ok but corrodes up inside the sleeve, may be worth just replacing it then thats one possible problem sorted.

Even if the battery is a week old, if it gets really low it can be damaged. Have it tested, charge the battery fully then have it tested. It may have lost some of its punch and won't do the job... The mf31-1000 does litteraly just go in the tray but give the car a real boost if life. :)
