Tratterer ask questions about a Freelander for his misses...

Reet, me misses wants a noo car, she has a ****ron atm.
I have tried to persuade her she wants a 110 but they is to big and to spensive for er, I have suggested a freelander, she said 'na they're ****'
I said no they is aright just don't get a petrol one.
She has done some looking and said earlier 'I have seen diesel freelanders, they are in my price range'
So I fort i ask ere about freelanders, i know the FL1 has a few little issues, what are they? can i fix em easily(ish) wiff me tratter tool kit (and help from ere)
is it the TD4 i want? what other ones are there?
I could :search:but I cant be arsed, hippo what one doos I..er..me misses want?

I think she I thinking freelander, cause i never fix her car and she says 'if it had a landrover badge you'd fix it' :blabla:

I think we do need a nuvver landrover in our house, she used to have a nissan torano which she loved, but it was ****, and the auto box died, I think she would love a freelander, she has the bigness of a suv type car, fairly good MPG nice bit of space and dont the back come off the fl1?
she'd like that in the summer top off ect

So what does she want? what do I need to look out for? are they all 4wd or are some 2wd

I know absolutely fek all about em and wanna know more

I suggest a FL1 TD4. Pretty solid.
Mine is a 5 door fixed roof. I notice if I open the back window the cab starts to fill with the stink of exhaust fume.
If the roof was off it might be much the same? Not sure though. Maybe someone who has one can tell you more.

How solid are the td4's?
What engine is it, someone told me (or did I dream it) they are a rework of the perkins prima ****things you had in maestros and montegoes

Most dealers loaned out 1.8 petrol FLs as courtesy cars.

I had one - once or twice - was v glad to get back in me TD4.

Earlier diesel OK but not a patch on the TD4 introduced in 2001.

Buy your missus a TD4 and tell her you got her a BMW - when she doesn't believe you, take out the yellow oil-check whatsits thing and show her what is written on it.

There are a few things to be done to make sure a TD4 gives of its best.

You'll need some shiny spanner things tho - none of yer Tratter tool-box hammer and a big screwydriver stuff mind.

Freelanders and BMW TD4's use a lot of Torx and security Torx fixings (male and female), everything else is fairly basic mechanics.

Hi ... these Freebee's are ok .... and are quite cabable little buggies....no 110 though. As you must have found all Landrovers have their issues.... FL1's TD4.... you need one with a really good service history .... look for IRD noise when hot (sounds like wheel bearing drivers side), extreme tightness when reverse turning ...should be a little, should start on the nail from stone cold...with little smoke, aim for face lift model or models after 2001 (early ones like mine have twin fuel pumps - which are a pain in the ass).
Prepare yourself for clutch replacement - these are heavy cars and ladies love riding the clutches..ohh err misses. Make sure all 4 tyres are the same. When you get one fit an EGR bypass, synergy 2, better air filter ..... and you will be surprised this little beast will motor ..... mine will easily clear 100mph ... normal driving 37-39 mpg not bad.

Nice, like the sound of that, 35mpg not bad, she dives sensible and looksafter her cars, where as my toe is a little to heavy, bit I give er car a little blast now and again, keeps a happy medium

Don't tell er though, or I will be banned from driving her car.
Mind you I love driving me 90, apart from the **** heater and yesterday I discovered a water drip that drips on yer accelerator foot when driving

Be very careful regarding noisey IRD .... and VCU .... read up on this in these forums....
I did buy a right nail and it was costly .... it's ok now. You do get what you pay for ... TD4's from 2k upwards .......look to spend 5k ish if you can and get facelift .....oh one last thing .... check every single electrical function ... rear wash wipe, ew, rear window etc etc. Good luck

Precisely why the manual states that the window should not be open whilst moving.

If you have no choice in the matter and must drive with it lowered, you MUST have the blower on full (and i seem to recall, not on recirc).

Read the manual

On the recommendations front, a FL1 TD4 is the best bet. Facelift 2004 onwards sell for more (and look better IMO)

They are still pricey to run (4 figure sums for injector replacements and the VCU and IRD are 'weak' on these beasts), but they are still fairly solid, and I've always felt safe motoring around in one.

FSH is recommended.
