Hi guys,

I’ve just signed up to the forum and was looking for a little guidance and some expertise if possible?

I purchased a Range Rover Vogue at the start of the year, quite a nice motor, L322 4.4 V8 2002 model. Absolutely delighted with it and love it to bits. In the last few days, I have been getting a message in the dash, ‘Transmission Failsafe Programme’. Being new to the Land Rover family I’m not sure if this is a Common thing or not. Got a folder full of receipts of work it’s had done, all MOT slips and a full service history. One of the receipts was for a reconditioned gearbox and all the trimmings for £1850 back in late 2016. Anyone able to shed any light on what may be causing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks David
 
Hey there and welcome to the Looney bin!
Diagnostic help may be needed to clarify if it is an electrical problem or a physical problem causing and electrical result!! Some of the earlier L322 has the infamous gm gearbox which wasn't a great box to start with. I'm not to clued up on the L322 and hope it's something simple for you.

Thanks for the reply Surely it would be an electrical problem due to it having a recon box some 3.5 years ago? Thankfully where I live there is a 4x4 specialist that deal in Land Rover everything, but, due to what’s happening worldwide, I won’t be able to get it seen too anytime soon as all garages are shut, which is a bit of a nightmare. Not sure on what box it is neither, maybe someone can shed some light on it in here. Thanks

Thanks for the input. And interesting to know that. I have a battery charger that could recharge the battery back to life. I’ll stick it on in the morning and maybe clean up the terminals to see if that will help. Worth a shot anyway.
Yeah I think it’s something I want to keep long term, nice toy to have and looks the business the way it does. Just hope it’s not going to turn into an overly expensive money pit.

As Alan mentioned Battery must be tip top and the alternator
rule one of range rover fault finding battery A1 ok then go from there.
 
Error messages are common if the battery voltage is low. As for not being expensive, L322's are money pits, more a hobby than a car.

Thanks datatek I currently have the battery on charge as we speak. It was only at half life when I connected everything up so here’s hoping that this will sort the issue
