transferbox oil seal

right, in the morning im off to change the seal on my transferbox which is leaking from the handbrake..
obviously you undo the prop take the housing off then crack the lock nut remove that..
al i would like to know is does the seal just prise out or is it threaded? the new seal seems to have tiny grooves in thats all..
any answesrs??

Yeah just gently encourage it to come out.

i have been told there a bastard to get out is this so???

a good screw driver and a hammer should do the trick on getting it out but be careful not to damage the casing.

i hooked an open ended spanner into mine, and tapped it out with a hammer.





I also tried before with a cold chisel, (this was on my back axle, sitting next to the LR, diff nose in the air) bashed the end of the cold chisel in frustration that it was stuck, it shot out, nearly took my eye out and i havn't seen it since. Cos its lost, not cos i have no eye.

Err well aye, gentle with a BIG hammer!

you can try to drill a tiny hole at say 2 and 6 o clock screw self tappers in andpull out it works well
