New to Landy's and I don't have an owner's manual but would appreciate if someone could let me know how the diff lock works? is it is simple as just moving the lever to the left when in Hi or Lo, can you stay in Lock, lever to left and shift between Hi and Lo? The previous owner did not think it had a diff lock, but the shifter is labeled and the pattern diagram shows a lock position...

Is it a D1 or D2? All D1s have diff lock D2 more than likely not.. For a D1 hold the selector to the left while very slowly moving forward on an auto or engaging the clutch on a manual and diff lock will engage as confirmed by the amber dash light.

To release move the selector to the right, if it dosen't disengage you have transmission 'wind up' so reverse a short distance then go forward this will usally 'unwind' the transmission there is a slight delay with the warning light extinguishing. You have a problem if the light remains on after 2 or 3 attempts to disengage.

Ah Cipx2 beat me to it.

Give the diff lock section of the manual a good read, like discool says : don't worry if the diff dosent instantly ingage or disengage, you will have to travel a few feet then you should see your diff warning light come on on the dash, just to the right and below the indicator lights.

If she won't go into diff lock or high or low easily then its a good sign in a way (shows it hasent been droven off road much) and don't force it if it really wont go in. Just raise the clutch slightly and it should be fine.
