Transfer box question

It's been lifted by 2" to start off with so I know it's going to highlight this problem, but I've got a rumble from the transfer box when I take my foot of the accelarator. I've taken the front prop off first & then the back & the rumble stops.

So it must be coming from when they are both on at the same time.

It has a new input gear in & taken up the end float on the intermediate, the output bearing's don't have a lot of play in them but my question is.

Is there anyway of taking up the play in the diff bearing behind the rear output housing as I can see a taper roller bearing on the drawing but I cant see how to take up the end float.
Or does anybody have any other idea's on where it could be coming from.

,end float on diff if any can be removed by swapping shim in front housing (which means stripping the entire housing) or you could put a made shim in between rear bearing and speedo housing ,you can buy shimming steel in 3 thou size amongst others cuts with scissors

I had this and it ended up being the hand brake drum rumbling! Worth a check before you do anything else as it's a simple fix!

I think drum is a little bit oval, do you think the I/D could skimmed on a lathe.

Cheers James, I did find it in the end but as you said everything will have to come out. We've got loads of shimming at work as we have a machine shop.

Must say graham glyn Lewis also said about the handbrake drum when I spoke to him about this.

I've been thinking about this one. I can't see it being the drum as I've put the front prop on it's not there (no drum) & put the back prop on (with drum) & it's not there, but put both prop's on with the drum on & it start's again.
I think the 2 shaft's are working againest the output shaft's or transfer diff & making in rumble,

I'm hoping.

I had a lot of rumbling that ended up being my drum, I swapped it for my disco one and it was all good after, never tried it without props so cant relate to that bit im afriad... A good engineering shop can skim the inside of the drum for you no problem.

A quick update.
I've done the front output bearing & it's got better already, so doing the rear at the weekend. It looks like I'll have to get a wide angle for the front cos I can hear it binding up when coming to a stop.
Jon, I can get any machining done at work so will skim it if needs be.
