Transfer Box Knackered

Took the kids out today and the transfer box gave up just as we got to our destination (luckily only 25 miles from home)! After a rather humiliating tow back from the AA, I've now got the Mrs & kids giving me hell cos I gotta cancel our planned camping trip next week

Does anyone know where I can get a decent replacement from, that wont involve me selling a kidney to buy it and get the family off my case?

just been on flea bay, I dont wanna sound stupid (but I am lol) is there any way to make sure I dont buy a duff second hand one?

I'm leaning towards a new one and I'll have to get a garage to fit it cos I aint no mechanic, how long does it take to change them over?

Cheers mate, I'd spotted the one for £140 quid less postage, 300 notes cheaper than new might well save me getting any more earache

The garage finally got time to check out the transfer box, and what a

. Turns out that the gearbox is f

ked as well, looked like it's been on way out for some time judging by the lack of metal present (and dodgy 2nd/reverse gears)!

So what with AA breakdown cover paying some of the costs, my pocket will be nearly a grand lighter. Whoever fitted the new clutch for previous owner never spotted the damage as he took off the gearbox and transfer box as one unit.

Gutted, but the plus side is that the Mrs ok'd the repairs

for new/certified parts, using the logic that 2nd hand parts might do the same thing and we'll be back to square 1 again.
