tranmission vibration noise/rumble?

Hi

i have a p38 4.6 HSE and since the cold mornings arrived i am getting a vibration/rumble when i start off in the morning or when ever the car if left to get cold again. It seems worse when reversing. I can feel it through the car. It clears up after a minute or so. The car seems to lose some acceleration when i hear the noise but then it clears up like i said.

Any ideas?

if it,s the auto box i would give it a service first(filter and fresh oil) and on a cold morning let the car run for a good 10mins before pulling away just to let the oil circulate and warm a little.because when it is really cold the oil thickens and can put strain on the oil pump in the box which can cause the symptoms you describe.

if it,s the manual do the same give it an oil change,there is no filter but again allow the oil to crculate and warm a bit before pulling away.

just give the above a try and let us know

cheers i will give it a try. I just had it serviced and a little suprised the garage never picked up on anything to be honest.

did they service the gearbox though.a lot of places when you put it in for a service do the engine and thats it unless specified,which is ok for a run of the mill car but 4x4,s have a lot more bits to service,diffs transfer box auto box etc,even the dealers don,t get it right,which is why i do my own,then i know it has been done and done right.

it's a small independant specialist. I never mentioned to him about it. Is it a pricey thing to get serviced. I dont have the space or the tools anymore so gettin most of my work done by this guy. He seems pretty fair and he's on the ball about most things.

a gearbox service kit should be no more than £15/20 and approx 5 ltrs of atf dex 3 which your indy should have,only an hour to do,so it shouldn,t cost that much,plus if it hasn,t been done for a few years it will help the life of the gearbox.
