Trailer Symbol Lighted with Head lights on, 1995 RR Classic

These strange sorts of electrical problems are nearly always down to bad earths. Is the lamp on brightly, or is it slightly dimmed? Do the indicators glow at all when the trailer lamp is on? If so, check the earths on your headlamps.

The trailer symbol is nice and bright and the Check Engine light is now on steady, headlamps on or off. The engine is running just fine and temp normal. This is getting spooky!

The trailer light is activated by the increased load of the trailer lamps, I have seen this caused by a stop/tail twin fillament lamp being forced in the wrong way round so that the 21 watt stop fillament is illuminated with the lights instead of the 5 watt.

It's this sort of anecdote which really proves the value of the forum, whether or not this turns out to be the cause of the problem in this case!
