Traction Failure

Make ModelMorning All,

Couple of weeks ago I had the message 'Traction Failure' beep on the message centre. I switched vehicle off and on again and the message disappeared. I thought the computer was having a hissy fit so ignored it.

The message is now more frequent, three times yesterday, so looked in the book and on page 30 it says seek qualified assistance.

Thought I would try you guys first see if anyone has experinced this before and any suggestions. The Rangie works OK. Changes gears as should and transfers to Low with no problems. Its a 1998 P38 40lt Petrol

Any ideas??

Hi

A simple thing to rule out would be the Battery/Alternator.

I had the same sometime back, and the cause was a flakey Alternator. With everything electric on the RR, it's a good place to start before going the more expensive route.

Make sure all your ABS sensors are pushed in to touch the reluctor rings. Too large an air gap and/or low battery/alternator voltage will give this problem.

Thanks guys, The sun is out, it aint raining so I will go and check all connectors and get the battery tested

Might be worth jacking up and checking wheel bearings also. Had this fault when one of my front wheel bearings was failing.

Yep for sure wheel bearing flapping about like a whippets dick will push sensor back and give big air gap causing that problem.

I agree, change battery and all will be fine again.

other things that can happen is; engine cuts out and stays in 3rd gear clock dials go haywire and dash light and heater all goes off and more error messages.....Traction failure, abs fault, gearbox failure etc

Don't worry, just get battery checked then maybe the alternator, happened to mine and it was only the alty brushes wanting replacement, £45 it cost

I had this about a year ago,i put a new Battery on(a nice big one

) and no more Traction Failure Message...
