Hi All

New to this so please be gentle. I've just inherited a 1.8 petrol W reg Freelander 78,000 on the clock and have a quick question as the title suggests. I'm not very mechanically minded and this is the first motor I've had in quite a few years.

When turning out of my drive I have to put the steering on hard lock to the right and go up a slight incline. On doing so the TC light comes on and a noise, I can only describe as being similar to grating gears, starts to bellow out.

The engine block, gasket and dowels were replaced 8k miles ago but i have read that the Freelander also suffers with VCU/IRD problems around the mileage it is at. VCU feels cool to the touch after driving but not sure how reliable the touch test is?

Anyhow, any advice would be appreciated and thanks in advance.
