All the geometry for setting up the tracking is in the workshop manual but realistically you've no chance of getting it right. Take it to an independent tyre place and get them to do it.

Wish i could but my landys mot is sunday and i have no money to pay for it plus rhe onlu reason i asked is all my track rod ends are split so im replacing them with wat i bought months ago and just need to get it as close as i can

have you got a tow ball? if so what i did was run a piece of string round all the tyres from the tow ball, like you would wrap a present if you get my drift and then set the front wheels to zero degree toe in/toe out by adjusting the TREs until the front wheels were straight compared to the rears , it was a piece of **** to do.

If you are running any kind of MT tyres or ever take it off road then having it set at the tyre place is a waste of money as it will be out again in no time at all, had mine upto 110kmh the other day and there was no wheel shake at all so i must have got it right :D

I've always done mine with straight edge and string line via back wheels. Done 10,000 miles since last done it, on insa turbo special tracks so would see the uneven wear on tyres but they're fine and let go off steering and she stays perfectly straight. Would bother with a garage as disco pol said if u use your Landrover for what she was made for a dy out will soon undo the precision of a garage laser alignment.

I had to get a pair of front tyres because of bad wear caused by the tracking being out. I would have done the work using the straight edge and string process as I've done on several cars in the past however I couldn't turn the adjustable rod.

This is where your local tyre man comes in I thought but not so, "don't do them mate got to go to Landrover" is what I was told at 6 places. I went to landrover in the end and they had to remove all the rods and apply heat to release them. Took around 2 hours and they replaced 2 joints cost me £80. Can do the string thing now but as I'm not an off roader I don't reckon it's going to need doing for another 20 years.

Should've gone to Truck Align

Welcome to Truck Align

done it know using string line and the measurements in the Haynes manual as a guide and seems fine back to normal in my eyes cheers for the help people

I have an device that comprises two plates, one on top of the other with rollers in between. I lay it on the floor and drive one front wheel over, and if there is a problem the top plate moves to give an indication of how much the tracking is out. It thus indicates how the tracking is out with the vehicle actually moving. Seems to work well, and I have no problems with tyre life.
