Ok I have replaced track rod ends on my old 74 sports car, an easy job. So I ordered some for the Landy (series 3) the actual pin and castle nut does not line up vertically but is off set about 20 degrees to one side on both of them. You still get a forward and reveres action but not side to side. Is this normal? I can only assume it is because of the set up. My car TRE's screwed directly into the steering arm and box but had full movement. And OK they were cheap ones from Ebay!!!!!

Definitely need some elaboration on this one. The TRE themselves should be free to move in all directions as is a simple ball joint. Once fittted they should only move in one direction as part of the system

They Only move back and forth not side to side, so no they don't move in all directions and both of them are the same ( facing inwards when together ) which made me think it might be a "Land Rover" thing.

They are just tight, clamp the steering rod and put a tube over the nut and waggle in all directions. If this does not work then they were just to cheap. There are some rubbish parts out there.

^^^^ as above, they will move in all directions. Have they got a grease nipple? If so give them a shot or two and wiggle them around.

Thanks have taken off the boot, greased them up (Took loads must have had non in there ) and wiggled them around with the new track rod. They always seem to want to go back at an angle. In conclusion they are stiff and cheap rubbish. Thanks for all the input, will buy a branded product, my bad I cheeped out!!!!!

I wouldn’t condemn them until they’ve been fitted and tested an you will find probs OK, obviously better quality parts should last longer

They look like the cheapos I fitted. Mine seem to work fine though. Bang em on and see if they ease up under normal use. They may just need a few speed bumps.
