some months ago I asked the question why is a p38 restricted to 150KG ball weight??

Well after many enquiries and serching the web I have arrived at the answer.

The p38 owners manual states 150kg ball weight because the tow hitch is only capable of that weight and EEC genral acceptance.

The US or NAS [North American specifications] obtainable on the web and printed in the same way states 500lbs / 250kgs the UK book states you should add the rear passenger weight pluss tow ball weight pluss weight of the load in the load space and not exceed the rear axel load which is 1840kg
however also stated is the recomendation not to exceed 995kgs EEC req again!
Now having purchased a new caravan weighing GVM 2460kgs and having a ball weight of 240kgs and towed it for some time now I have had not a single worry other than being short of say 100bls torque and 50bhp all has been going swimmingly well. And the self leveling suspension elliminates any faulcram effect leaving front end response the same.

Conclusion: there aint no worries about 250kgs ball weight PROVIDED you use a tow bar/hitch that will comply with that weight eg Hayman Reece class 4, the Rover p38 can and will opperate very well.
PS PROVIDED your air susspension is up to scratch.
