Fitted a towbar to my '06 TD4 recently and bought and fitted the genuine LR towbar wiring harness (plug in type). Towbar came with nasty scotchlock wiring harness one fits all type which I didn't want to use. Genuine harness was not as dear as I thought so went with that. LR dealers wanted £35 for the relay however so I ended up buying the Lucas relay from LRDirect for £13. Part #YWT10002L
Relay works fine when trailer is connected i.e.. trailer light on dash flashes when indicators are working. However when no trailer is connected the relay clicks and tralier light flashes dimly when indicators, brake pedal pushed or wipers are on. I suspect that either the relay is faulty or I have a bad earth somewhere. If it's an earth any idea where or which one it could be? I've checked and cleaned the one's I can see in the engine bay, they seemed OK.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the replies guys! Muchly appreciated!

have you tried putting the old relay back ? (without the trailer on) just to see what happens then ?

Put the old relay back on today! Works fine, no clicking but no trailer light on dash! Guess I could change the relay every time I tow a trailer!

There is an earth header right hand side rear behind the trim in the boot. This is the earth for the light clusters so worth a check

Took the panel off again today and cleaned the earth in there. Didn't seem to make that much difference with the clicking! Light on dash is a little dimmer tho! :)

Going to try a relay out of a friend's FL tomorrow, his is the LR supplied one, to see if that makes a difference!

Any other suggestions?
