Hi just bought my 1st freelander (2004 commercial) and aquired a Detachable Towbar part no. STC50390 (or VUB501500/KNK500080). I started to fit this yesterday but came up with a couple of problems:
1. Both sets of bolt holes on the left/right were at least 6mm out of place and 2. I could not get the bar under the trim properly.

Now looking on the web I have seen the same model no. towbar with welded top tabs instead of the solid one I have with two through holes fro the two M12x75mm bolts.

Have a mutant towbar or (more likley) did Land Rover modify the design.

Bar is currently fitted but I had to remove the tow eye which also doesn't seem quite right.

Seem to remember some towbars had spacers instead of the welded brackets above the inner two bolts. Probably missing from yours. Obviously without them the bar will tilt upwards making the side fixings and towball misaligned.
