Lovely Shropshire...
Just a quick check that the petrol and diesel TC's are different to each other...i have an 03 4.4 petrol and need a torque converter for it.

Cheers, Nick.

Yes, the petrol & diesel transmissions are completely different and come from different manufacturers (ZF & GM respectively). You need a ZF 5HP24 torque converter, and you want the F38 version.

I’m based in Leyland, Lancashire (http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic38676.html). I source my torque converters from JPAT near Bristol so it would probably be cheaper for you to buy one directly from them as I obviously have to add a ‘handling fee’ to make it worth my while. Just to give you an idea though, a re-manufactured unit is £230 and a brand new unit £550. Prices are exchange (i.e. you have to supply your old TC) and include VAT but not postage.

I think the knowledge and support that comes with one of your TCs would be worth the extra cash :)

Ive spoke to Jpat about getting one off the shelf and then sending mine after its fitted (dont mind paying a deposit) but they are saying they dont carry stock and can only re build my own. This is a little awkward for me as I can get ramp time from my boys employers garage, but only after hours. I couldnt leave Jaffa on the ramp whilst I send my TC away.
Do you keep any on the shelf Phil ? Ive no problem if you make a little from me - youve given plenty enough to this and other forums.

The way this is going we could set up a group buy

JPAT provide a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty on their re-manufactured torque converters. My concern was that if you bought one of their converters from me, and I’d had it sat on a shelf for 3 months, then you would end up with a 9 month warranty. However, I’ve spoken to JPAT and because they identify each of their converters with a serial number I can advise them which converter I have sold on which date and the 12 months starts from that point, rather than from the date that I purchased it from them.

Initially I’d be willing to take the risk, providing you’re a regular contributor to the forum, not to charge a deposit for the exchange unit and take it on trust that you’ll return your old converter to me once you’ve fitted the re-manufactured unit (you can re-use the packaging that your re-manufactured one arrived in). If someone lets me down and ‘breaks the chain’ then it will prevent me ordering the next one and therefore spoil it for everyone else.

I just need to firm up the price to make this worth my while but it will be around the £235 mark (including VAT) + postage, bearing in mind there will be two lots of postage.

I still think it would be easier for you lot to buy directly from JPAT/Sussex Auto Parts/Mackies rather than me becoming a JPAT distributor, though :)

The service you are offering though Phil is that somebody could buy one from you and not have to have a vehicle sat on a ramp waiting for the TC to be remanufactured which i think is worth paying extra for and like i said before, we know what you can offer above anybody else and that's your knowledge, experience, honesty, helpfulness.. do you need me to carry on ??:)

Nicely put HC. We have all grown to love and appreciate your input into this forum Phil, Im happy to put some readies your way for the sake of my Range and the continued growth of your business.
Give me a PM when you have finalised the price.
