My starter, does the oil filter and fuel filter saved me a load of grief with the worlds hardest to get to oil filter
Cut the bottom of one of these

Sometimes it is difficult to do something with a standard tool, I have several home made easy options in my box.
Or alternate use of something else like oil filter strap wrench to prevent shocks turning when undoing the bottom nut.
 
Probably should have specified that its a TD5. Ball ache with a chain wrench, just enough room under the filter to get the old one out and the new one in.

The above was in reference to holding shocks, a chain wrench just chews through filters. Do you not have the special tool for the td5 filter? The one you have made looks the same design but is a different filter shape to what is on my td5
