To Diesel or not to Diesel

I'd go air filter and Intercooler as first pass, sports exhaust next, then do the ECU remap to make use of all the other bits. On me 200 TDi done the airfilter and Intercooler, just deciding on what to do next.
 
Ecu will be your best value bang for buck- 200 quid will get you a decent psi, van aken or similar box, the exhaust- dont bother- the diesel is loud enough- same goes with the K+N- The performance gains are really less than 5 bhp total- for the latter 2, dont forget- the car left the factory with 136bhp approx- over the years this does decline. If you have money to burn go the intercooler route- then you can say you have done a real performance mod. Hope this helps....

rubbish and exspencive, ECU best value for money, the rest depends on driving and usage as to if there is any real advantage. but then any one who spends money on a 200 TDI is just wasting cash, LOL a 200 has not even have a ECU, so your just talking though a hole in your head

Yes some playing in the mud and sand go to coast quite a lot.

Lots of dog walking (chucking dogs in the back)

Just fed up with the GTR always being of the road, cause there is no where to run something that fast anymore....

The RR will mainly be a weekend car as I have the van; I like luxury cars and have always loved the P38 so it's a good mix for me...

In which case I can't understand why you have decided to ignore the V8
Diesel here is about 10p a litre dearer than petrol and you will get 20 mpg if you are carefull
If you only intend to use it at weekends then you won't notice much difference in running costs
Try and get a shot of a 4.6 - trust me, you won't want near a diesel afterwards
You always have the option of LPG too if running costs are a big issue, and V8's are usually cheaper to purchase in the first place - diesel P38's are becoming false economy, it's just that their owners won't admit it ! ;)

Well, most people on here know I was referring to me 200TDi DEFENDER not me 3.9 Rangie. Intercooler and air filter mods have made a big difference especially when competing. Still, you know everything so I'll shut up as I obviously don't know the first thing about engine tuning.
 
My soft dash 3.9 does 22-25 mpg on a long run taking it steady. Booting it, it's down to about 14 ish. Running on LPG the figures are down a bit, but overall (60% motorway, 40% town) it gives about 13mpg. It's de-CAT, tubular fannymolds, Sebring stainless exhaust, RPi ignition upgrades (50kV spark) and Optimax ECU - will keep up with a Type-R in a straight line but doesn't like corners that much :(

then why are you giving advice based on an old dog non ecu ???

of cource your mods have made a difrence, but changing an ecu is cheeper and more efective, but then you wouldint know that, since you doint have one aye, no problems when you grow up and get promoted from McDs fat fryer boy to McDs window boy, then maybe you can start to dream
