TK103 Tracker - Am I doing it right?

Hi all,

I bought a TK103A tracker. I've had it out on the bench for testing and it seems to be quite accurate, only a meter or so out each time.

However, I cannot seem to get the MOVE and GEOFENCE/STOCKADE options to work. I can call the tracker, it replies with current GPS etc. so I know it's working in that sense. I set the stockade with a distance/perimeter or try the MOVE command but when move out of the defined area, I don't get an alert.

Maybe i'm not setting something right. I am simply sending the MOVE command (tried manual text and also using the great TKController app). I get a response MOVEOK but when I do move (put it in car and drive to town), no alert.

I know this tracker isn't always rated as great, but this is part of my multi-layer onion security system If it turns out to be crappola for the car, I have other uses for it.

Does it need to be in GPS mode for those to work, mine does for the move command?

GPS or GPRS? I got a bit lost with the Chinglish manual. Can't see a specific command for enabling GPS mode, so will try GPRSXXXXXX and give that a go.

yep gprs+password to go back to sms it is sms+password

to save data after setting gprs type less gprs+password on this saves battery and data.

Command needs to be entered as

Movexxxxxx 0500

Where xxxxxxx is the 6 digit pin you set and 0500 refers to a 500m radius

You can put in whatever distance if you wish - I use 0700 for 700m (avoids false alerts due to satellite drift)

Oh ok, what is the difference then? What is the difference in the two modes?

Sorry, obviously a simple answer but i'm missing it (long week and it's only Thursday).

Thanks, I did pick that bit up from book. It defaults to 0200m if you don't specify but like you say, best to err on the side of caution re. drifting.

SMS, you have to ring it to get map co-ords, GPRS is live tracking which you can track on the map, i have the 102 and the company i got it off have their own tracking site.

Oh I see, all makes sense I guess. Does that use data or sms to update the site? My tariff is 300 text and minimal data

Data, not much, i usually leave it on SMS when i know whrer it is and GPRS if i don't know the area, then when i am away from it, i can check my phone to make sure it is still where i left it.

Oh, I have how it works all wrong then.

I thought I could just enable the move command at night before I go to sleep, then switch it off in the morning. So if it were to move at night (I can't always park it outside my window) i'd get an SMS alert.

You're saying to get this function, I need to switch to GPRS and use the data/online service?

Mine is working witth no online tracking enabled

I enable the move command - if it moves outside the set distance i get a text every few minutes until i either switch it off or the PAYG SIM runs out of credit!

As youre able to send and receive commands your SIM and aerial must be working.

Have you tested (in the Landy) the GPRS aeria (square one) is getting a signal? Way to do this is to phone the tracker, let it ring 3 times and then hang up. It should then text a status reply which includes location map co-ordinates

The square GPRS aerial needs to be able to 'see' the sky. Don't tell me where it is, but if it has metal between it and the sky it won't work' It can operate through wood, plastic or vinyl OK

Ok thanks, this is what I thought (and hoped) when I bought it. Giffgaff 300 text deal, only 20MB data. Will give it a test now and monitor if it uses data online.

I have it powered up on my desk at moment, location pinpoint accurate. To test, I take to the car and leave on dash so clear line of sight to the sky above. Both LED's blinking as they should, red once a second and green in-between that.

If not working, must be something really odd.

I know it's SIM sensitive (woks with 2g not 3g)

If still not working, might suggest factory reset and restart installation protocols

For fun, I have set the text tone to KITT from Knightrider

Just checking the LED status

6.4.1 Red LED indicator on: No GSM network signals.
6.4.2 Red LED indicator flash fast (one time each second): GSM Network signal is normally, and tracker works under GSM mode.
6.4.3 Red LED indicator flashes slowly (one time each three second): Tracker works under GPRS mode.
6.4.4 Green LED indicator on: GPS signal is normal.
6.4.5 Green LED indicator off: No GPS signals.

If once in the Landy you have a 1 sec flashing red light and green visible too should be OK in terms of signals required to work



Did you do the tedious procedure to link your mobile phone to the unit - think you have to phoen and hang up 10 times in a row to then received an 'add master ok' text acknowledgment
Not sure if this is needed to tell the unit where it has to send any 'move notifications' to

Red blinking once a second so GSM should be ok (plus I can ring it and it sends me a text back). Green is steady (in between the red flashes) so GPS ok too.

I have already done the ring it 10 times and am the master (heeehoooooo) so see if that made a difference. I just went out now after setting the movexxxxxx 0200 command. I drove much further than that...no text. However, I did pass through a dip in signal (rural, so comes and goes)...

Will try a reset now, then test when home and have a more 'stable' signal

Very odd - running out of ideas :-(

I live very rural too and know (sometimes) there can be a slight delay in the unit sending an acknowldgement text - but rarely more than a 2 - 3 min delay

Oh, and did you try the phone the tracker, let it ring 3 times, hang up test - it should reply with a status message and location co-ordinates

Yep, anytime I ring it comes back with a text and accurate location.

Pooh bums.

reset+password the command?

i have the TK102 and have the manual with me at work (just in case i get bored), and it says:

Movement Alert.
Set up : when the unit stays immobile in a place for 2-10 minutes with GPS signal reception, the user can send SMS "move+password+space+0200" to the tracker

It then says that 0200 means 200 meters.

to cancel send nomove+password

you could try the cancel move one then wait 10 mins and try to set it again?
