Hi, done the head gasket and a second hand head that has been skimmed (allegedly) problem is using timing tools loaned by ex employer(independant dealer) when I come to remove all pins ect then try to turn over ebgine by hand it locks up, any ideas, I think head has been skimmed too much, is this a possibility, alsotrying to turn engine over in park( its my first auto) is this ok as engine turns over without cam in place, thanks.

there no way skiming the head can cause the engine to lock up, if i where you i would double check your timing or get you mate to check it. thats the only thing that can be causing a problem. the pin will go in several different holes in the flywheel so i would start there and make sure you get the right position.

Sounds like you have valves striking pistons. Recheck all your settings. If you had the cam off did you relax the tappets as you refitted it. There is a waiting period for tappets to relax after fitting cam. But it sounds like you have the cam timed wrong. Number one piston should be at TDC number one firing pin inserted, index hole in FIP sprocket upper most. Viewed from top of casing. Number one cam lobes should be flat across top locked in place by special tool.

hi there did you have the came set at top dead center with a locking tool be for you put the head back on if not you will get the piston contact with the valves and your timing will be out .and make shooer the locking pin is in the flywheel is right position
