Hi - newbie here, looking for wisdom. I've previously owned a 110 CSW and 3.9 VSE Classic, but been Landy-less for a few years now.
If any of you can cope with a bit of a tear jerker, here's the sad day when my companion of 10 years finally departed to somebody who could face the amount of work it needed:

Anyway - I'm now looking for another, budget 3-5k, probably a Discovery (although I like classics too). I really can't face the fuel bills of another v8, so its Diesel for me for the first time.
So should I looking for a Disco I or II? 200 or 300 tdi? What are the differences?
I know about the seating and I understand that II are better for rust. Also some (not all?) IIs had rear air springs.
I usually do all my own maintenance - so I tend towards early vehicales. The Air susp on the Classic was not very reliable and I had to pay for each computer diag and reset .
Sorry if this has been done to death here - I did use the search, but "discovery" doesn't really weed out the threads I want.
Any pointer to threads or advice appreciated.
