Hi all, I had a major problem a few months ago when the steering box on my 110 defender 300Tdi collapsed !! Luckily it happened just as my wife was parking it up or it could have been very dodgey to say the least. Anyway, I got a re-con box fitted by what I thought was a decent mechanic untill the car started to wander all over the road, it was like steering a boat rather than a Landrover !! When I had a look underneath I was horrified to see that the 2 nuts and bolts holding the tie-bar to the steering box were almost hanging off, in fact I just turned the last couple of threads by hand and off they came !!
Looking at the holes they came out of they appear to be the wrong type of bolt and they didnt even have washers on.
The front hole is larger than the rear one so I was wondering if there should be a sleeve or bush in there or are they special bolts with a thicker shoulder than the threaded part ?
Any advice gratefully received.
