"Three Amigo's" - need some closure on the subject please

OK, I have done a search and read the threads that seem to be relevant and have seen a lot of info on potential causes, ways to connect some gizmo I don't own to it and read codes from that which I don't understand, and mention of pulling bulbs to get through MOT's, but I haven't found any real answers on the two questions I have:

1) How much of an issue is this? Many posts seem to treat it as nothing more than an annoyance and don't give the impression that it is a real problem, so how often is it that there is an actual fault detected and not just a dodgy sensor (or two, or three, or four.....)?

2) How much is it likely to cost to get fixed as I have seen mention of £100-200 and also £165 per wheel.

When mine came on a year or so ago i just pulled over switched off then on again and they went off. All was ok until a few weeks ago when they came back, just done the same and been ok.

The only closure,take to a dealer or specialist and blow a rio to get it sorted, but dont expect any change....on the other hand,

Do it ya self and it might just cost u that monkey.. ie parts and Nancom - Which U might need in the future.

You need to identify what has gone wrong in the first place, before you start throwing money at it.

If you have the lights on continuously, ie they don't go away on a restart, then you probably have a wheel sensor issue.

If the lights go away on a restart, then it is usually an issue within the ABS modulator block, sometimes the shuttle valves (repair kit available for £36) or a connection between the valve switches and the main loom.

Wheel sensor failure on the front due to cable fatigue is going to need a new sensor and a reset at a dealer.

If you feel competent to do the shuttle switch replacement yourself, then it is about an hour, taking it easy and being careful. The brake pipes don't need to come off to do it.

I have changed the shuttle valve switches on mine and done the resoldering of the PCB pins, I didn't need to do the wiring mod. I believe that corrosion on the PCB pins and the connector that plugs onto them is also a failure point.
