Don't say much about using modern technology in regards to security. Wouldn't put it passed modern car thieves know more about Landrover design department.

They seem to have been doing this to D4 for a few years now.
Dummy obd socket and a farady cage for the keys seems to help.

It comes to something when insurance companies recommend you fit a steering wheel cover or crooklock on your 90K motor to deter thieves.
It's the ridiculous time it took the thief to have the car away.
It seems the time taken has gone back to the last century. Screwdriver in the lock and then a bar between the spoke of your wheel and yank out the ignition wires and twist the right two together and touch the other one and you're away! According to some ex car thief i heard being interviewed on the radio...
I heard that another favourite place to take your car is supermarket car park. They watch you lock the car and walk away. Before you've got into the shop they've used the boost box to open the car and are in.

They do
Acquaintance of mine, who works for a LR main stealer, had an aftermarket system fitted as he had no faith in the factory setup.
A car security expert once told me that given the right kit (easily obtainable if you know where to look) & the 'nouse to use it a modern car, especially those with keyless entry, is in fact easier to steal than many older models.

Most of these thefts use keyless entry. Disable keyless entry to make yer heap more difficult to nick.

Luckily keyless entry was never fitted to Freelanders.

Is that possible?

I had to laugh at an article i read yesterday about some constabulary issuing a warning about 'new' keyless car thefts. NEW?

It can be disabled on the D4. Instructions in the disco section. It wouldn't surprise me if dealers can switch it oft on others cars. Software 'features' are modular. So there should be an option to disable it.
