as a 15 year old boy i started a saturday job in our local garage, the mechanic(as they were called back then) that i was assigned to help sent me with an empty 5 gallon drum over to see the tyre fitter and get about 4 gallons of compressed air, as a green fool i took the can and stood watching whilst the tyre fitter filled the drum, i merrily strolled back over to the mechanic with the drum, he opened it and told me it was empty, i swore i had watched him fill the drum andhe sent me back, telling me to make sure the lid was tight this time, so off i went, watched him fill it yet again, then screwed the lid on really tight, took it back and he opened it again, as he said it was still empty the tyre fitter grabbed hold of me and they both ****ed their selves laughing, i still remember it to this day and it still makes me laugh when i see green apprentices fetching various items of non existence ;)

the 'adjustable bulb filament ' and the 'tin of compression ' were what we sent our trainee to the local factors to get - the head storeman was a bit of a joker so he turned the tables on us and sent him back with a 'capless bulb 'and an 'aerosol can with no label' with the words 'compression ' written on it in felt tip - and the bugger charged us for them
