It looks like it for them hand ratchet winches you get on boat trailers , prob be more trouble than its worth .
The " simply slides on and off the tow ball " bit concerns me !!!! as it could slide off past your ears with a load on it .......................

If it goes onto a standard ball then its rated at 3.5 Tonnes load most winches can easily double that and damage the tow ball.

well the minimum you will want for landy recovery is an 8000lb winch (i have one iam going to use as a rear winch when i get my landy sorted) but it would be ok for erm..... loading a trailer? but yer cant do that as the trailer would need to be on the ball for you to load it,

to be honest i cant see than many uses for it

Tow balls mostly bend, then snap if a vehicle is stuck fast ... They're not a recovery rated part. Using the towbar mounts or a rope round the towplate is OK, just not the towball, unless all that's needed for recovery is a small pull. If you need to keep pulling, or have to snatch recover, then a tow ball simply won't stand it and will be, potentially, a major safety hazard.
