I am thinking to change my D2 to D3 but I am not sure yet as I have heard some bad stories about possible engine failure which can only be solved by a complate change. I know that every car can broke but usually can be repaired within reasonable cost. As far as I know no parts are available for such serius demage on the D3 engine only an other used engine (for 6-7k€)?
I have talked to a guy having a 2008 D3 and he says that cars produced after 2007 are with improved crank shaft. Are those really better?

Most people who require an engine buy a S Type or the Citroen

You need to ask Ford why it fails

I dont what spares are like to get hold of in Hungary? but and i hate to say this as I really like my D3 I would stick with the D2 until it rots away.

I do not buy parts locally as much less on stock and prices much higher. There are 1-2 suppliers who sells used parts but also on very high price (an example: used auto box for D2 for 800£ and no quarranty that it will work after a month). So I prefer new parts but I could not find main engine parts for D3 (like short block, housings and so) which can be used for rebuild in case of big issue.
The used engines are also quite expensive and you can not be sure that it will last for some years or only months.
I like D3s this is why I have asked others experienes. But I also really like my D2 (this is my 2nd one) so if no good solution for possible engine failure I will keep my D2.

Not that I’m fussed either way but wasn’t it a Peugeot/Citroen design built by ford? The scare stories are exactly why I just bought a D2 not a D3, very happy with it so far!

Was case of £500 between late D2 and early D3 and maintenance scared me off, engine failures were not well known then

do you know if there was any improvment in the engine after 2007 or it is just "tale" by the person who wants to sell his MY2008 D3?
