Thinking of buying a rear pto for my defender 110 advice needed

I am thinking of buying a pto for my 110 anybody ever had one ? . I would require it to run a small chipper as part of my work is it up to this and any problems with them ????

then talk to the chipper people and ask them............ Did you do a search on the subject? Or go to a tree trimming site they wood know better, knot here

is it not Oak to ask here.? Sounds like ya been Beechy, to me. :rolleyes: the question is plane enough. and by asking on here and possibly on a Arboriculturalist site. Surely he's hedging his bets. Can't blame the guy for wanting to Branch out.. :D

Looks like he could be stumped with his question. But is good he is branching out in his business, just hope he doesn't get any forked answers, other wise he could have a fall and leaf.And if he isn't careful he could be mulched up in his work;)
 
Thanks Oldseadog for great advice as for Thor I have asked for advice!not a stupid reply especialy to a new member .Why would arbourculturists know about Landrover pto systems and yes I have searched but nothing on Landrover pto systems which is the Question I asked !! that's why I asked on here as I have had series ones for thirty years not a Defender
 
You could fit an hydraulic system easier than a direct drive as there is no PTO 'hole' in either the front or rear bumper/cross member.

However, from experience, it would be more practical to fit a PTO on the front, as that would be nearer to the hydraulic pump.

Do you have one in mind, or one ready to fit?

Also bear in mind that most of us will extract the urine at any given opportunity, so please don't take anything personal and try to see the funny side of life. ;) ;) ;)

Root to the problem is it won't work, if a pto shaft of side of tramission will tear up the gear box and you will need a operator in th seat for safty. Second if trying to use a hydraulic pto he will need at least a 30-40 gallon hydraulic tank and a Oil cooler with fan plus a emergency shut off/disengage switch for the hydraulic pump. Best bet is buy a chipper with it's own power supply
 
Thor I have a large chipper shredder with own power supply but need one I can leave at a forest site as and when I am in the area can just hook it up
 
The hydro pump is relatively small , I had a 109 with a group three pump, and the tank was only about 4 gallon , it ran a winch , and had t/o for water pump , and chain saw , the spool valve just came thru the seatbase near the tunnel .

Big difference between them tools and a chipper power requirement. Just a guess you would need a minimum of a 40-50hp hydraulic pump. Still waiting from OP to see what his HP requirements for the chipper is. Saw you link for pto pump and that is a very small system , designed for winches, a big difference for what is required
 
The chipper I use in work is a 3 cylinder1.5 diesel Kubota and that will chip up to 5" in diameter if that's any use. Can find out the hp if anyone's interested
 
I have a 3 cylinder Kubota diesel engine low hours cheap if you need a spare Lyndon and also a large 6 inch chipper and separate shredder greenmech for sale as thinking of giving tree work up due to ill health
