every time i fill the defender up, i fill it to the brim so i can see the fuel, but it still only registers 3/4 or less when full to the brim.
its really bugs me, as it doesnt give me an accurate reading of how much fuel i actually have left.
can anyone instruct me on how to make it accurate.

cheers

like big ad said new sensor,or take out drivers seat and underneath is the tank with the sendor unit in the top of it,there are 3 connectors on it,try cleaning all connectors and plugs with wd40 and a bit of emery paper if that dont work then its defo the sendor unit.dont know if this applys to td5s tho but it did on my 2.5td..

i meant a red part on the fuel gauge. think im gonna go take it out and have a butchers in the tank :)

When you take it out make sure the float aint got fuel in it, and look at where the little arm runs up the resistor which is just a wire wound around the bit the arm runs on. might find at bits it aint making a connection.

If you connect it to the power move it manually and check it against the guage, might have to earth the thing to body to get it to work tho.

On some of them a liitle bend of the arm with the float is all thats needed to get it calibrated. But make sure it registers empty accuratly afterwards.
