Hello,

I've recently brought a V8 Discovery 2!

First thing I've recently noticed is the top radiator hose gets very hot and the bottom one doesn't get hot what so ever, am I right in saying thermostat needs changing?

It doesn't over heat and it doesn't use any water. The heaters inside the car are also still coming out hot.

It had been sat for a while and the coolant had been changed whilst having an oil service.

Any suggestions would be great!

Thank you.

Certainly sounds like stat the v8 should warm up fast normal issue is keeping them cool enough.

So I've replaced the Thermostat, but still doing the same thing.
Guessing now the Radiator is blocked? Common thing to do?

Very rare for rads to block Ive certainly never seen one myself, is the water pump circulating the coolant ie can you see it moving in the header tank and as you rev the engine the flow increases?
Do you have to bleed the v8s?
As its an unknown car to you was it real cheap?

That I will check on it the morning!
What I can understand is why the top rad hose gets pretty hot and it doesn't flow threw the rad itself.

Car is had been sat for a couple of years.

It wasn't cheap cheap but was average around the same as others in the same condition.

Certainly sounds like a circulation problem, if its been stood you may have a rad issue, but a flush with a hosepipe will soon confirm that either way.

Reason only top hose is getting hot is but coolant hardly flowing is called thermosyphon and was actually used on some of the first cars.
