Not sure to be honest Dearot. Have you got temperature issues with yours? I know my temp gauge used to show exactly half way. Never went above half, got to half very quick too.

Initial opening 82 deg C.+/-2 deg. Fully open (9mm) 102.deg C
If my Testicle information serves me correctly.

Coolant pump drive ratio 0.93:1.
Coolant pump output@1000rpm 0.5 l/sec

Out else?????

thermostat housing torque wrench settings 18Nm

No dont have any issue with my thermostat marksurry. I just thinking changing the thermostat to lower tmp to fully open that can prevent head gasket failure due to thermal shock. I heard this is what cause the head gasket failure in mg and freelander.
 
I think the HGF issue is the special "feature" requiring a "major" service ("new engine") for the 1.8 K Series. Other engines do not have this as a "routine" service requirement.
 
I think an engine change is required at 36k miles on ALL petrol Freelanders. Normally just after a major service :( Mine went at 37k miles on the V6. Gutted to say the least.
 
I think the K series is a good engine but it was design for a FWD car not AWD. they should have redesigned its cooling system at least a faster opening of the thermostat.
you know any car using 75 degrees thermostat? :rolleyes:

I don't know the technical specifications for ANY thermostat I'm sorry to say. Sometimes I think I should learn them all though :eek:
 
The K series has an impressive power to weight ratio - one of the best but the early engines had some design defects like the plastic head locating dowels. I am not sure it is AWD by itself but the extra load within the Freelander setup would have benefited from additional cooling.
 
I agree Dorowe. My V6 used to run ok according to the temperature gauge but after parking and walking round the front of the vehicle the heat being kicked off was amazing.
Good engines but plagued with faults. Even the K series in the little MG F sports car is prone to problems, head gaskets being one of them!

yes it is true. I believe it is caused by the thermal shock due to late opening of the thermostat.
If changing to lower temp thermostat works, well it is good for freelander owners and all car owners that uses K series engine.

Hi mark,
Td4 reacts the same you know, when I park mine in the garage and I pass in front it seems as an heatblower under the bonnet.
