..or how to spend an full afternoon & a bit of evening in the sun! :crutch: I'm tired, my arms and fingers hurt and I need some more Swarfega! :D

Here's the start of the project:-

New serpentine belt, new drop links, new anti roll bar bushes, new bump stop.

The nesting place for the new belt - no one told me it'd be a tricky as a snake on crack to fit, especially seeing as I was not removing the viscous fan!

The old belt had just started to de-laminate and had cracks in its ribs

The new belt whizzing along happily as it should! But, oh the pain of skinned forearms feeding the belt around the pulleys whilst hanging on to a 3/8 socket wrench on the tensioner. I hadn't got a short enough extension to use my breaker bar  Plus, despite being of the correct size, the belt did need some persuading over the last pulley; I chose the ACE bypass pulley, not sure if there's a better option whilst hanging on to the aforementioned socket wrench with one hand

On to the drop links. Pictured is one of the new links I fitted last week (I'd had them a few months in anticipation of sorting them before the MOT). These links are rubbish! Perhaps it's a bad batch? I don't know, but as soon as the Disco's weight operated on the bar, the ball joint attached directly to the bar opened up :pound:   I'm going to contact the supplier on ebay, and I'll see if they'd had any returns etc. Didn't cost much :rolleyes:

In good old Haynes tradition, the other side is just a repeat of this one! :)

On to the anti roll bar bushes. Out with the old:-

Bloody Hell!Trying to get the clamps back into position after fitting the new bushes almost lead me to despair. I ended up jacking the anti roll bar up to the extent it was taking quite a bit of weight off the front wheels in order to allow the clamp bolts enough purchase for me to tighten the buggers up! :crutch::crutch: I must have been doing summat wrong

Where's the new bump stop you ask? Sod that for now! :D My upper body has had enough of a workout, and lying on the ground might have done my back some good.. maybe..

my belt is way worse that than :) have you thought of making disconectable arb links?

No Ste - I'd have to get rid of the ACE torsion bars first. Mind you, I could just remove any trace of anti roll bar, link etc. then I won't have to bother for the MOT. I know not to go reefing into corners at full chat.. ;)

hehe, ya don't need the workshop anymore:p

bring yer camera this weekend for when I surgically remove the arse end of ya chassis

gotta keep ya thread up to date now :D

I know, I know! Need a massive uploading session from my phone to my PC and then to Photobucket! Should I just bung 'em in this thread or start another?

...goes off to see if title can be edited....

was looking for pics of drop links to see if anything untoward may happen, see your post, as tricky as a snake on crack PMSL
