alright chaps, just delving in from the discovery section!
been thinking about owning a defender for a few months now but it seemed to be the cost that was putting me off for very little luxury as i still like my creature comforts and my disco doesnt suit dents as much as i like to take it off road so i want somthing thats gonna wear them with pride!!!
budgeting for 10k max really and from a dealer pref as i would want my warranty with it as a precaution on engine and box even though yes i am a mechanic and a trader belive it or not
just a general idea of how new/spec/condition i can get with my money, am more after the newer the better really.
thoughts ideas and insults welcome!

90 or 110? seats? how many!

should pick up a good TD5 90 SW for that money, with some to spare! there are plenty out there.

Not really, eg there's a 2001 TD5 from Jersey (or guernsey?) on fleabag at the mo which the chassis has clearly completely rusted through on, not fit fer strainin yer peas thru, up for i think 4 or 5 K, there are 200TDI's which have fantastic chassis and gearboxes for the same money which would be better. You go dealer and you will probably nearly double the money you have to spend though, there are great ones out there but dealers tend to price them as thought they are going to have to replace everything under warranty (and make a profit on that too!), whereas you know this isn't the case! Autotrader and fleabag are good, there are a coupla auction reject sites which are really good too. Definitely a good move over to this side tho!

hmm as fer 90 or 110 i think 110 purely for the size, plus ittle be as much a tool as my disco is, but i do have my eye on a 53 plate 90 with wheel and tyre upgrade and 40k on clock think its a td5 lump?? thats up fer 9,995 but i already got him to the early 9k mark.
the earlier the better is just purley for the reg mate, but dont worry ittle be inspected to death and ido know what to look fer! cheers chaps. just unsure about the range and models in the defender as me last one wasnt a defender it was a 88 90 rpi and i aint really looked or drove any others besides a 110 county on a 98 which seems very desirable to me.

it will have the TD5.

only choice now is station wagon (seats/windows), van, Hi-cap, double cab pickup

10k will get you any of the above in good condition.

like thought of a double cab pick up but the prices seem a bit extream, and dont want to touch finance really yet at the same time dont want to leave me self short.
had the lads talking me out of it today aswell, personally i love love the oportunity to own one but......well i dont know type but but!!just big commitment and i might hang around in this section for a bit, do a few more read ups etc etc
do landrover do 24 hour test drives????

think am going purley on looks being the desire to have one, but i cant see the advantage of it over my disco on a practicality side exept valeting it is quick with me karcher??
