Hi everyone,

For the first time in my life I am now a Landy owner! I have tinkered with bikes and boats but this will be my first major car project. Little bit about me, I am an ex electronic engineer > moved into technical sales a little while time ago but love getting stuck in.

I am yet to name her but I have just got my hands on a rather tired 1999 Discovery 2 TD5. Body work is great, undercarriage is not bad, came with a snorkel and chunky off road tyres. Engine runs and sounds good. Now for the bad, the things that I know about :) Overheating issue (it is not the head gasket it has been checked), sticky locks and a very tried interior.

I have just ordered a Haynes for her, I have found the wiring schematic for the central locking system and the cooling system. I have not delved into this forum yet I imagine there are lots of great schematics and bits of information!

It has recently had a new rad, new cooling hoses, new thermostat, coolant switch and a cap. I have a couple of suspicions but it is early days. The the hoses get warm but the rad stays cold. I have not spent much time looking yet. I am going to start by trying to bleed it one quarter at a time. I noted they have used the red coolant, I think it is meant to be the blue one for the 1999 model right?

Anyway this is me saying hello, looking forward to hopefully getting to know some of you in the coming months!

Hinand welcome! Nice looking disco. Once the cooling issue is sorted, you’ll have a nice truck.

Always welcome an electronics expert. Hope your cooling issue is nothing too serious. I would start by checking all pipework is connected correctly as it is possible to refit some incorrectly when replacing components. I think blocked heater matrix will cause overheat on td5 so check heater works ok

Welcome nice intro dude...you'll get all the help and advice you need on here with a bit of banter thrown in...but I reckon that wont phase you...lol

Thank you everyone, pleased to be here! I have just got back from a few days away in the lake district, plan to start spending some time on her in the coming week or 2!
