Over the years on my P38 4.0 V8, 2.5dHSE and recently my L322 4.4 V8 I have suffered power drains.
On the P38s they just flattened the battery.
On the L322 this meant the usual litany of AC, power steering and air suspension faults – as well as flattening the battery. Initially, installing a fresh new battery would cure these issues. Then eventually they came to stay.
Apart from a recent trip to France, when the car performed faultlessly for 5 days, until after a thunderstorm in Dijon, all the the problems returned. I thought about water ingress but a lot of people said this wasn't the case
At my wit's end I decided to sell the car for what I could get. Then a garage I trust suggested I try Cartronics in Byfleet (near the M25 in Surrey). These guys had the car for over a week.
Eventually they found the problem. An ECU underneath the front passenger footwell was sitting in an inch and a half of water. This particular module is impossible to get hold of, so they repaired it put in it a plastic bag and mounted it higher up than before. They also drilled a small hole in the floor to drain any other water.
The bill wasn't small, but the car now runs perfectly. I can't praise Cartronics enough.
