Well, i went ahead and got myself one! I have gone out and bought a R reg Disco Commercial. It hasnt been molested, but this is the thread where you will see it become molested! It hasnt really been looked unfortunately!

I had it MOT'd the other day and it failed, mainly on rust, and the fact that the exhaust had become 2! I got it up on the ramp at work and sorted the exhaust out, thank goodness we hve a disco breaking! The headlamp has been replaced with a non fish bowl! And i will get on with the welding tommorow.

First bit of stuff ive done to her was to trim the front bumper, gives me a bit of a better approach angle, and took all of 2 minutes!

This is her as she stands, let the games begin!

Its been a fair long time since ive updated this, but here goes! In the time since ive had her, she had her MOT, and passed second time around. My welding was good enough thank goodness...

Well, i had taken her out greenlaning quite a bit, and had a good old play. And then it came to new years day. Flooding was quite bad in the area and I decided to go out and have a splash about. during this splash about, i came across a ford that i had crossed many times before. And as we all know, pictures speak 1000 words, so here you go!

Basically i became a boat, floated down onto a solid footbridge, and wedged! water was absolutely bloody everywhere. me and my friend got out and to safety, and decided a rescue at that time was damned stupid, so we left her.

Later on, at about midnight, a friend called us saying he was out laning, and came across a disco in a river that looked awfully similar to mine, low and behold it was...
I got myself down there, and the level had dropped somewhat, i waded in and struggled to find a decent recovery point. Anyway, after about 1 hour of being in freezing cold flowing water, a fourtrak-vitara-terrano combo lugged the old girl out!

And the next day on the driveway...

After one hell of a lot of tinkering and fudging about with immobilisers, she was running again...

And, here she stands now, with a few extra bits

Well, im very happy with her so far, and long may she live!

Today I finished modifying my roof spotlamps. I thought it would be a bit different so i added 2 5mm LED's to each lamp to light with the sidelamp circuit. I think, during dark, it looks pretty darn good...

Yes the first pick looked a little deep! Where in Devon is that? It looks like Teign Grace? I live in Newton Abbot. Interestingly our numbers plates are only a few numbers apart. Mine is R150 CCX!

thats holbeam lane, just off the ashburton road, you will probably know it, lots of deep puddles and a play area of sorts!

And to answer you Phil, the led's arent very bright, they are only there as marker lights really, i dont notice them at all while driving. the flood bulbs are standard halogen

Not 'that' different ;) :D

The LED's are great to light them up - I have also done the same to my 2 rear work lights with red LED's acting as tail lights, and they are also wired in to come on as reverse lights too

I have done all 6 lights with 2 LED's in each of them...

and this is what they look like - this is just on 'side lights', I have also put LED's in my front spot lights too

they are not as blue/purple in real life - just the camera isn't the best for this type of shot

I LIKE LIGHTS

Bit of an update, got me 2'' lift fitted at the weekend. A few rusty bits found, some very rusty springs and some fairly leaky shocks! I would have some pictures but for some unknown reason, my damned phone isnt saving anything.

Anyway, on sunday afternoon i decided to go out and have a bit of a greenlane. Heres a video of a few of them...

Dartmoor Laning 24/2/14 - YouTube

hope you enjoy

Where on Dartmoor is that? Is it fine to take an in modified (currently no sump guard) discovery 1 up there? It'll be needed for the school run the next day!

It depends, the first lane is manaton. Its good to take an un-modded disco, ive driven my old pug 306 up there before, admittedly it took some ragging, but it got up!

She got some (nearly) new boots today. although noisy as f**k, they arent terrible! Just got to see how they perform offroad now...

By the way, they are Insa Turbo Traction Tracks, a copy of the very popular BFG Trac-Edge. I have them in 265/75/16. My old tyres were 235/75/15 and these make a difference in my gearing, by eck is it strange!

Morning Jordon,
only across the valley from you, got an unmoded disco looking for some lanes across
Dartmoor, I only know Hound Tor and Ashburton road. tried Simms hill but wife was not impressed. Great video, thought it looked high up around Manaton. Give us a shout if your out and about.
Cheers
John

Well, today was wiring day! I dont know whether i should show you guys these images, as the state that i have left it in does not belong in a land rover of any kind.

Anyway, here goes, i plopped my new switch panel in today after fitting it with many switches for many things! As we all know , nothing is better than a picture or two on here, so here you go guys!

I know i know, this is far too organised for a disco, but im an electrician so i have to show some pride in my work!

And here is the porn for the roof lights...

Ah well, all in time! Not a lot more done today i dont think, back to work tommorow so nothing until the weekend now :(

Hey Devon lad, your mods are looking good, I'm going to take a look at Manaton soon thanks for the recommendation! I'm also a sparky, I like the set up but think you must be crazy!!! I wanted the 300 tdi to hide away from the cables ;-) steering guard in the post as well as winch bumper (wife used the old bumper to emergency stop) diff guards soon, so will be heading to rougher areas in near future :) have you uprated springs and shocks for your 2 inch lift? I would like to go down that route but big cost difference between that and block option, don't yet know how much performance difference there is between the two - comments appreciated. Also like the way the new boots fill the arches!

Hey buddy, i got hold of a heavy duty spring kit with a set of delphi +2' shocks, its a slightly tougher ride, but will be ideal for towing, the back is more solid now. A friend of mine was on lifter blocks for a while, and i prefer the ride from the upgraded springs rather than lifting them up, but there isnt much of a difference. I only lifted mine when i did because i was offered the springs in return for a bit of work!

i dont mind the electrics, I like my lights :p im a lot like a magpie!

Having just replaced an alternator with shot bearings myself, coupled with the fact that there's rubber granules all over the alternator case leads me to suspect your alternator!
