This is more of a 'Own a Range Rover? - then get your own Diagnostics Kit' type advert....you know the info-mmercial type you find late at night with cheesy graphics and an even cheesier voice over.....
Went to pop into town at lunch time, and as I pulled away at the lights there was a slight hiccup and hesitation...then the Engine Light comes on...
Engine still running - Still pulling fine - Still revs nicely - no recurrance....
So get into town, pull out the 10" notebook tucked in the boot cubby hole and the RSW All Comms.....
Nothing major, just an O2 Sensor (Lambda Sensor) value gone max signal, this can happen due to unburnt fuel getting into the Cat and causing an abnormal reading or if the Petrol/LPG switch over happens just at the wrong time (during hard acceleration or sudden on-off-on on the accelerator etc) can cause both LPG and Petrol to be injected at the same time causing an abnormally high combustion reading!
Clear and reset.....
Happy days.
This little hiccup if taken to an LR dealer could have resulted in a wait for a space in the workshop and for the use of their Testbook, Half hours labour (£65) and a slightly narked Service guy who has just wasted his time pressing the reset button.....
If you are on good terms with your LR garage, they may just do it for free, but there is also the hassle of getting it there at a time they can fit it in and that is good for you etc etc....
Get your own Diagnostics and save yourself potential bills - won't save you from everything, but it can help you out!
No Range Rover owner should be without some form of Diagnostics....
