Hi guys,

Right I've tried my best to research this myself but I'm struggling a bit. It's definately not the brake light switch, thats fully operational.

I guessed/hoped it was a dodgy ABS sensor which would be an easy fix.

Had the Freelander plugged in today as Ive constantly had the HDC/ABD/TC lights on.

4wd worked fine in the snow just no ABS.

This is the fault that came up........the Auto Electrician said this doesnt necessarily mean its a sensor, it may be a wiring problem :doh:

Try unplugging the sensors and giving everything a good clean. They can get filled with crap or knocked and then won't pick up on wheel rotation so giving a fault. Got to be the cheapest option to start with. If it sorts it the lights will behave properly and will reset the system (I think that's right anyway)

More info would help a bit as the ABS system is different on early & late vehicles.
 
Red is right,

Clean everything first.. always do the cheapest and easiest stuff first before assuming its wiring.. If it turns out to be the sensors, the lights will automatically go out, you wont need them reset..

Everytime you start it, the ecu does a self test, so if the problem is fixed by cleaning the sensors, the computer will extinguish the lights automatically without any need to reset them.

Hi guys, it's a 1998 S reg swb 1.8.

Thanks for the advice, I assumed the garage will check that but I'll say to them. The autos park has advised getting the cars on the ramp and make sure the sensor is sending/generating a signal from the wheel when it is rotated
 
it was never going to be the brake switch on such an early model system.

check for cracked reluctor rings on the outer cv joints and check the sensors with a multimeter, a good sensor should measure 950 - 1100 ohms.
