The otehr half has been saying that she fancied something that she coudl carry stuff in and transport teh dog about etc when needed. We currently had a Nissan Skyline, Mitsubishi evo and an open top beetle. As I'm sure you can all guess, none of them were really upto the job. We started looking at estates etc Not many caught our eye really. Then she started looking at 4x4s (very different to the jap skyline she drove lol). Eventually settled on the Freelander, spec was not amazing but the car was capable and not to bad as far as money was concerned. I set about looking for one. Only thing she said was that she wanted a black one lol. Initially we were going to get a cheap 3 - 5k one. But I prefered the look of the 04 plate ones and read up that the 2000 on models had a good BMW engine. Anyway, long story short. Yesterday we went out and collected a black 04 plate HSE. We are very pleased with it. It's pritty much immaculate although teh sat nav dosen't seem to work so tom tom will end up back in there. Think I got it for a goodprice too. £8990 + 200 for a 12month warranty.
So how did we do? Did we pay the rite kinda money for it ?

Yup TD4 :D Was seriously warned off the 1.8 (I think it's a k series lump, head gaskets are a good buy I would imagine). V6 would have been a bit heavy on fuel. So TD4 was teh way to go!

Have you got the handbook? The Sat-nav is not intuitive, nor is it the best system around once you have mastered it, but it does work and doesn't have tell tell brakets inviting plebs to beak in and nick it!

He's hardly likely to have gone for an '04 cos they have a BMW engine, then bought one with a Rover lump is he?

Yes, 1.8 petrol (Rover) which you wisely avoided
V6 petrol ditto
Td4 Diesel (BMW) the best (only?) Freelander engine to go for.
