A couple of weeks back I decided to get some replacement shocks seeing as the rear's had evidence of weeping - nothing drastic. I've had the D2 TD5 for 2 years & no idea how long the shocks have been there. Got a complete set of Terrafirmas for £137 from Ribble Valley 4x4 - my local landy parts supplier (TF118 front & TF119 rear). Looking in one end of the boxes, we confirmed I'd got 2 fronts and two rears. ?? This will become relevant later!

Have fitted the rears only for now seeing as they're easy to sort out. Definitely made a difference - the back end is less chattery. Going to fit the fronts soon.... as soon as a ramp space opens up at my friend's workshop!

Sorry for the blurry effect - my phone's camera lens has got scratched.

Now as you can see - I got two different versions of the TF119 - one with a plastic upper shroud & one metal. They both extended to the same length and felt the same. However, seeing as I'd already removed one of the old shocks, I wasn't going to put the bugger back on! Besides it was late on Saturday. Test driving the vehicle didn't reveal anything untoward :). I contacted Stephen at RV 4x4 to explain. He contacted Terrafirma (Allmakes?) during the following week to see what should be done. Short story long, on the following weekend I returned to RV 4x4 & Stephen fitted another metal shrouded one whilst I waited. Top man!

Terrafirmas seem to do the job for the money - at least on a stock D2. But do check what's in the box when you buy (both ends!). Different batches? Plastic cheaper to produce than the metal one? The lady I managed to speak to at Allmakes could not shed any light on why there was a difference...

Looking good, I used Britpart's cellular dynamic gas shocks, the orange ones and have been pleased with them over a few years now.
Are you running with out the rear brake disc guards? No problems at MOT?
